Today the mid autumn festival begins! Everyone is celebrating with family and friends and many of my students have gone back to their hometowns. I'm thankful for the break from school to rest and recover from this cold, however I am already feeling SO much better...I think much more highly of chinese medicine now. Thank you, thank you , thank you. Oh, and I might not have to spend the holiday alone. My friend, Huige had to work and was unable to go home with his family so maybe we will have dinner together here in Linyi.
Ok, it is a tradition in China to eat yue bing (moon cakes) during the festival. I compare it to eating pie on Thanksgiving. Yue bing come in many different flavors from peach to meat...if you can't read Chinese, you never know what you are going to get! You see moon cakes being sold EVERYWHERE lately. I think it is common to bring an assorted box of them home to family or friends as a gift. Also I found these flavorful little eggs at the market today called tea eggs. I think they are quail eggs. They are boiled and soaked in tea and they are really good! I think they are a typical Fall food too!
